Step 1: Where do I start my renewal?
To begin your renewal process, complete the Smog Check Program's most current Program Update Course (12 hour minimum) at a BAR Certified Training Institution. Click here for a list of schools.
If you have completed the most current Program Update Course, then proceed to the next step.
- I would like to renew my Basic Smog Technician License.
- I would like to renew my Advanced Smog Technician License.
Warning: BAR will allow an expired license to be renewed (with completion of the appropriate update course) up to exactly one year from the expiration date of that license. After one year, the applicant must meet all the initial applicant requirements to obtain a Smog Check Technician License.
