  Answers general consumer questions and complaints and helps identify locations of licensed Smog Check stations.
Consumer Assistance Program

  The Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) helps California consumers to comply with smog emission standards for their vehicle.
  CAP allows qualified motorists to receive up to $500 in emissions-related repairs from the state.
  Eligible consumers must take their vehicles to authorized Smog Check repair stations to perform repair services.
  CAP also administers the Vehicle Retirement Program.
Smog Check Parts

  Locate hard-to-find emissions parts needed to bring vehicles into compliance with state law.
  If the parts are not available, issues a "Limited Parts Exemption" which is mailed to the motorist.

Bureau of Automotive Repair Licensing Unit announces new telephone hours. The BAR Licensing unit telephone hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The current processing time for initial business applications is 4 to 6 weeks. The current processing time for technician applications is 2 to 4 weeks. Please call to check the status of your application during regular phone hours if you have not received your license or registration within 6 weeks.
